Is Travertine Tile Hard To Keep Clean

What Is Travertine? Travertine is an elegant natural stone that has been used as a building material for centuries. The stone can be found in many different colors, ranging from gray to gold. From countertops to flooring, travertine has many uses. The natural stone can be utilized both indoors and outdoors. The following is a thorough analysis of everything you will need to know about travertine before purchasing. Once travertine has been quarried, it’s generally finished in one of four ways for decorative use in homes and commercial settings. Polished travertine: This finish is the most modern and elegant. Its natural holes and crevices are filled before polishing begins, and then the surface of the travertine is buffed until it is smooth and shiny. Because polished travertine tends to be slippery when wet, this isn’t a good finish for bathrooms, kitchens, or around swimming pools. It has a high-end and luxurious look, however, that’s perfect for entryway floors, counters, backsplashes, and tub surrounds. Honed travertine: This is the most popular finish for residential use. When travertine is honed the holes and crevices of the stone are filled, and the stone is then sanded on one side to produce a smooth, almost-matte finish that suits virtually any decorating style. You can use honed travertine as flooring throughout the home, for countertops in the bathroom or kitchen, and on walls, backsplashes, and fireplace surrounds. It also works as an outdoor finish. Tumbled travertine: Put travertine tiles in a large tumbler with small stones, tumble gently, and you get the most weathered and rustic finish, ideal for Mediterranean, Spanish, Tuscan, or other Old World decor. With its matte, heavily textured surface, tumbled travertine tile is good for outdoor flooring, as well as wall insets, shower or tub surrounds, and fireplace surrounds. Because it is so textured, however, this isn’t a suitable finish for countertops or indoor floors. Brushed travertine: The least common finish, brushed travertine has been slightly smoothed with a wire brush, leaving a surface with more texture than honed travertine, but not quite as textured as tumbled travertine. It’s a rustic and weathered finish that suits casual or Old World decorating styles. Use brushed travertine anywhere you’d use tumbled travertine.   Travertine Maintenance Guidelines What Will Happen if You Do Not Seal Your Travertine?  If you opt not to seal your travertine, you will risk having the stone get damaged. Travertine Floor Restoration

Travertine Floor Cleaning Professionals in Houston

Over the last decade, we have seen a huge increase in the popularity of travertine in homes. This is because travertine is an excellent natural stone for both indoor and outdoor flooring. Many new homeowners are moving into spaces with travertine, and many homeowners renovating their spaces are electing to use travertine. While this is a stone that can last several decades, it is important for homeowners to be aware of the specific sensitivities and vulnerabilities of this natural stone material, in order to avoid damaging their stone.   Travertine is a porous stone, meaning its surfaces are comprised of tiny holes that lead into deep pathways within the stone. This allows the stone to be lighter and breathable, however it also leaves the stone open to outside influences such as dirt, mud, grime, moisture, and more. At Modern Stone Care we work with homeowners to find solutions that make sense for their space. If you have a stone surface in an area with light traffic, you may not require as frequent of maintenance and upkeep as a space with heavier foot traffic. Same can be said about spaces with pets and children, versus those without. This is why we work with you to examine the condition of your travertine floors and come up with a plan to preserve its beauty and durability. We want to help you preserve your natural stone and protect your investment in them for years to come.   Outdoor Travertine Cleaning Outdoor spaces with travertine flooring generally will minimally require annual cleaning maintenance in order to protect them best. Outdoor influences are more harsh than the ones you typically find indoors, making deep cleaning the flooring a priority. Not only will your outdoor travertine be exposed to acidic rain waters, it will also have very little if any protection from dirt and mud. These materials can easily become caked into the stone, sealing the porous surfaces, leading to damaged stone.   Indoor Travertine Cleaning Indoor travertine flooring will most likely be sealed and polished. This means, over time the seal will begin to weaken, leaving your travertine stone floors open to outside influences. Your stone will need to be regularly cleaned, sealed, and in some cases polished, in order to maintain the beautiful appearance that made you fall in love with the stone in the first place.   Whenever you are looking for the top

Travertine flooring has become an increasingly more popular material choice for residential and commercial spaces. This is because travertine is a beautiful natural stone that offers a wide range of diverse appearances and uses. From outdoor to indoor spaces, property owners are turning more and more to travertine flooring for their spaces.   One issue that has come along with this quick rise in Travertine flooring, is a lack of knowledge on how to properly clean and care for this stone. While it can be durable and last you for several decades, when properly cared for- it also comes with its own set of unique vulnerabilities that can be problematic for those who are unaware of them.   Something to consider when analyzing the maintenance needed for travertine, is that travertine is an extremely porous stone. While this makes it more lightweight and breathable, it also causes the travertine to act much like a sponge. Each porous hole acts as a pathway, leading deep into the stone. Now imagine dirt, moisture, other various spills and materials, being pushed into your travertine flooring. Instead of just collecting on the surface of the stone, they will penetrate the stone and become trapped past the surface. This can lead to moisture damage, discoloration, and an overall weakening of the travertine.   Many flooring companies will offer travertine floor cleaning services, but this does not guarantee that they are familiar with the unique qualities of the stone. travertine hole filling houston

Travertine Hole Filling Houston

-What is Travertine? Travertine is a highly porous, beautiful, natural stone that is known for it’s versatility. Travertine is so adaptive in application that it has become one of the most popular choices of stone to use in homes for showers, kitchen counter tops, back-splashes, indoor flooring, courtyard flooring, pool surroundings and more. However, as mentioned, Travertine’s surface is extremely porous, lending it to be covered in many tiny holes that can be problematic when used in your home if it is not properly filled.   -Why does it matter? It is important to seal indoor Travertine to protect the integrity of the stone. When the holes are not filled it leaves the stone vulnerable to moisture, corrosive materials and is quicker to damage. Filling outdoor Travertine is important for all of these reasons as well as to protect the stone against extreme temperatures and weather. In the Winter, if the temperatures drop below freezing, the stone is much more likely to crack with unfilled holes.   -How is it done? First its important to carefully clean the surface with a dry rayon mop, static pad or hard surface vacuum to remove all of the dirt from the stone. Then, once you’re sure the surface dirt has been removed, it is safe to clean the stone with water and a specialized cleaner. If you aren’t careful removing the dirt with the initial dry cleaning, the moisture from a wet clean can push the grime and sediment deep into the stone. Once the Travertine is completely dry, you can proceed to fill the holes in the stone’s surface. Using an epoxy grout, deeply pack the holes, wiping away the excess that collects on the surface. It is extremely important to make sure the holes are packed in firmly so the epoxy resin bonds fully to the stone. If done properly you will be left with a smooth, uniformed stone surface that is more secure and will last longer.
